Summer All-Star Team Selection Process

  1. Players will be evaluated on a COMPREHENSIVE BODY OF WORK consisting of Spring Try-outs, Spring season performance, Summer try-out sessions, and overall attitude of the players.  The continuity of coaches in Savin Hill Little League allows coaches to become familiar with the skill sets of each player.  Additionally, each Spring game's statistics will be kept by the coaches, entered into the website, and taken into consideration as part of the selection process.
  2. Players who played in the Majors and Minors must play a MINIMUM of 60% of the regular season games during the Spring season to be eligible.  The Board may make exceptions on a case by case basis for players who sustained long-term injuries or illness (for which there is documentation) over the course of the season.
  3. At the completion of two summer evaluation sessions, eligible coaches will be given a ballot consisting of all of the names of players who expressed an interest to play for a summer all-star travel team and attended at least one of the Summer evaluation sessions.
  4. Coaches of any level who attend at least 50% of tryouts will be eligible to vote.
  5. Each eligible coach will rank all players from #1 on down to the last player
  6. The players with the top 9 average ranking will be AUTOMATICALLY placed on the "A" team.
  7. The head coaches of the "A" team will then have full discretion to take 3 to 4 additional players to round out the team, taking into consideration positional needs as well as areas of strength and weakness for the team.
  8. If there enough players to form a B team, after the "A" team has been selected, the 9 next highest ranked players will AUTOMATICALLY be placed on the "B" team, with step 6 being repeated to round out this team as well.
  9. Making a team the previous year DOES NOT guarantee that player will be selected to the team the following year.
  10. Since each team will consist of 12 to 13 players, unfortunately some players may not be selected to a Summer All-Star Team.  We will make every attempt to field as many teams as we can, though if there are more kids who try out than there are spots to fill a team, some players will not be selected.
  11. The entire process is transparent, and parents may request to know what number their player was ranked if they submit an official request to the Board via email.
